MODIFYING YOUR EDC GUN – WORTH IT OR NOT?

I got to thinking yesterday about custom work on sidearms used for daily carry. Obviously I am a fan of customizations/modifications, as is evidenced by the “Pink Gun of Shame”. But all these changes can cost a buck or two, and usually involve sending your gun to live with the gunsmith for a while. So, is it worth it?

Looking back on my shooting career, I have always been blessed enough that should I want a customization (or five) done to firearm, I could afford to spend up to the amount that I originally paid for the gun on these little pleasures.… Read the rest

SPRINGFIELD XDs REVIEW

The Springfield Armory XD-S is a long-awaited derivative of the popular and proven XD series of pistols, and was designed for everyday carry and deep concealment. As an owner of several XD series pistols (and sometimes referred to as the crazy XD lady), I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of these to give it a try!

Specs:

The XD-S is a single-stack compact pistol chambered in .45ACP.  The overall length is 6.3” with a slim width of only 1”. … Read the rest

HEELS AND HOLSTERS – AN OVERVIEW OF THE CC HOLSTER FASHION SHOW

Kitty Richards’ awesome gun heels

Although all the hype about  the Concealed Carry Holster Fashion Show was primarily about the runway show itself, there was really much more to the event than just heels and holsters.  In fact, there was an entire day and evening of education available for women interested in responsible firearm ownership and use

Some notes about the event :

  • The purpose of the event was to educate, empower and enable safe and responsible firearm ownership
  • Tickets sold out in advance – we expect a larger group next year!

LIVING IT UP AT CRIMSON TRACE MEDIA DAYS

Saturday night, my husband, Dave and I checked in to Hotel 50 in downtown Portland, Oregon to kick off the Crimson Trace Media Days. After meeting up with Shelley Rae from Western Shooting Journal, we headed down to Portland City Grill for happy hour and dinner with the media group as well some really great reps from Nike, Otis, Danner, and of course Iain and the gang from Crimson Trace. Leatherman was kind enough to sponsor our dinner and drinks and provide us each with a LED LENSER P3 flashlight.… Read the rest

GIRLS GUN GETAWAY, CC FASHION SHOW AND MORE…

Hey everybody!

You may have seen my tweets and status updates about a Girls Gun Getaway (#GirlsGunGetaway). I am excited to announce that the time has finally arrived to pack my bags and head out for a weekend of friends, shooting, explosions, hunting, and whatever else our clever minds come up with.

5 SHOT LEATHER CUSTOM SCABBARD IWB HOLSTER REVIEW

How I came to know 5 Shot Leather:

I am sure you have heard me mention the 5 Shot Leather IWB holsters before.  When I started carrying on a daily basis, I quickly realized the importance of a good holster. My carry piece at that point was a 4 inch Kimber Pro CDPII .45 1911. I blamed the all the discomfort I was experiencing on the big gun and the inside the waistband carry method; completely unaware that it was actually the cheap $40 holster I got at Sportsman’s Warehouse that was causing the discomfort.… Read the rest

SIG P238 REVIEW

Four of the Sig P238s have come through my classes in the recent past, and I have had the opportunity to both shoot them as well as observe them in the hands of my students.

I realize that the P238 is by no means a newer gun, but with them recently becoming more popular with the female students in my classes, I would like say a few words regarding it’s functionality for both myself and my students.… Read the rest

RUGER LC9 REVIEW

The Ruger LC9 has made quite the boom in the firearm industry. It seems that every girl and her sister either owns or wants one. I’ve seen a lot of them showing up my classes lately; so when Armed in Heels asked if I was interested, it seemed only natural to do a write-up on the LC9 .

My review has been written based on performance in both the hands of the beginner shooters as well as experienced shooters, including my own. … Read the rest
