STEEL-CASED/BIMETAL AMMUNITION IN MODERN DEFENSIVE PISTOLS

Hey everyone, I would like to introduce you to my good friend Gregg Smith.  He is the author of this article. Gregg started as a competitor and shooting instructor in the 1970’s while serving in the USAF; he has served as President of the Clatskanie Rifle and Pistol Club, and for the past six years has been Rangemaster of that organization. Gregg added NRA-certified instructor ratings in multiple disciplines in 2005, along with Chief Range Safety Officer in 2009. He has authored courses on concealed carry and defensive pistol, teaches classes each month, and runs the clubs’ Action Pistol Program.

YOUR OPINION MIGHT NOT MATTER – THE USE OF DEADLY FORCE

I have been seeing a lot of articles about the use of deadly force lately, I have also seen a lot of comments on these articles going on about personal opinion on when deadly force is justified. The problem is this: your opinion just might not matter.

There are two justifications for deadly force. There is legal justification and moral justification. In the world we live in, one must first contemplate the legal justification before the moral one. Sadly, the moral justification for deadly force will get you thrown in jail or prison if you don’t have the legal justification in the first place.… Read the rest

THE FACTS ABOUT STEEL CASED CARTRIDGES

There is a great debate about using steel cased cartridges in the gun world. Everyone seems to have their opinion on whether or not steel cased ammo is the way to go. Personal preferances are best made when based on facts and not the opinions of others. What I want to share with you are the facts, not my opinion.

Please note, some guns are designed to have steel cased ammo run through them, such as the AK-47, many AR-15s, and the SKS.… Read the rest

RAPE VICTIM TALKS ABOUT CONCEALD CARRY

Amanda Collins speaks out about the importance of the 2nd amendment right on college campuses.  Sadly, her story is not all that unique.  According to Crisis Connection Inc.: every 21 hours there is another rape on an American college campus. Amanda is fighting back against the anti-gun policies and legislation that have a hand in making these rapes possible. Way to go, Amanda! Packing Pretty backs you up 100%.

WHY WE TRAIN

This is a guest post I did for Train to Carry on why it is so important that we get proper training before carrying concealed.

All too often I hear of women who bought a handgun or received one as a gift, shot a few rounds through it (maybe they took a basic handgun course, maybe they didn’t) then they threw it in their purse and forgot about it. I think a great misconception is that if someone has/carries a firearm they are protected.

FIGHTING THE FLINCH

I cam across a pretty good article over at Guns.com about conditioning yourself and others not to flinch when a round is fired. Many people (men included) tend to anticipate the loud bang and the recoil of firing a shot, this triggers the flinch response (pun intended).

Read the article here —-> Fighting the Flinch: Mastering Recoil in a Handgun – Gun News at Guns.com.

I would say that about 70-80% of my students suffer from the flinch reaction when they come to their first class.… Read the rest

A BREAKDOWN OF THE UN-OFFICIAL “US MARINE CORPS RULES”

Un-Official U.S. Marine Corps Rules:

(Words in pink are Packing Pretty’s thoughts and comments)

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

Be careful who you befriend. Most women are attacked by people who are known to them, friends even. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) reports that 73% of sexual assaults were perpetrated by a non-stranger. I am the nicest girl in the world…until you try to hurt me or someone I love.

2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.Read the rest

EVERYTHING IS A WEAPON

One of my favorite concepts to bring up when I’m instructing women in self-defense is that just about EVERYTHING CAN BE USED AS A WEAPON. I don’t like to confine women’s minds into believing that a handgun is the only route to self-defense. Some women don’t want a gun, and other times, women who do have guns can’t always access them easily. That is why I teach my students to view everything as a potential tool to aid in their defense.… Read the rest

PACKING PRETTY’S POINTERS ON STAYING SAFE

This is a guest post I did for my friend Vanessa over at Mixed Martial Arts and Crafts. It’s about the importance of personal protection for women. I think it covers some very important points and is well worth a read!

EVERY 2 MINUTES SOMEONE IN THE U.S. IS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED

Knowing how and being capable of defending yourself are two separate things. Just because one has read up on and watched defense techniques does not make one proficient in them.
