Consider this: every weekend I go out and teach a group of students how to defend themselves with a handgun. The problem is that no amount of hours on the range is going to wrap their heads around the idea of harming and possibly killing another human being. This is why every time I teach one of my Street Carry classes (an advanced class); I include a lesson called “The Fireside Chat”. The point of this lesson is to get the students thinking about the nasty questions that they would rather not consider.… Read the rest

When you live around or above the 45th parallel, like me, it is dark ALOT. I always recommend my students carry some sort of a tactical light on their person when packing a handgun. I know there are some companies out there who make some pretty sweet weapons mounted lights (Insight, NightOps etc.) but is a weapon mounted light really a good alternative to a handheld flashlight?
Now, some people like to argue that weapon mounted lights give away your position to the “enemy”.… Read the rest

A note to society: let’s be honest here, as long as there have been guns, there have been women shooting them. Take a look back in history, there is no shortage of women with guns. Even TODAY there is no shortage of women with guns. So while I applaud the women, like myself, who have decided to take their personal protection into their own hands, I am not any more proud of these women then I am of the men who do the same.… Read the rest

This is a list put together of some of the women from books and movies that I have found most entertaining with their gung-ho, go get ’em attitude.

This is me in the last stage of the May 2011 Action Pistol Match…The idea is to stop the immediate threat with the 2×4 because that is what I have in my hand at the moment, then switch to my gun. I have never done this before, and this is why I fumbled getting the gun out of the holster. You will also notice I am shooting fairly slow, I shot slower to improve my accuracy in this stage. In some stages, speed is the main factor, in others accuracy is.… Read the rest

1. Auto Assult – 12 (AA-12): This is a select-fire 12 gauge shot-gun. We are talking about 300 rounds per minuet here, people. Can you imagine what this bad boy can do to someone’s face? That is ALOT of zombie stopping power. And yes, that is drum magazine (20 -32 shells).… Read the rest

Archenemy:From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An archenemy, archfoe, archvillain or archnemesis (sometimes spelled arch-enemy, arch-foe, arch-villain or arch-nemesis, originated around the mid-16th century) is the principal enemy of a character in a work of fiction, often described as the hero‘s worst enemy (compare nemesis).
I know you are thinking “but my life isn’t fiction”. You are right… But the war raging between you and your archenemy probably is. And don’t worry.… Read the rest

On Saturday, I spent the entire day at the range. Alot of that day was spent working on a video to be played for new members to familiarize them with the policies and procedures of our facilities. For those of you who don’t know, I am a range officer at Clatskanie Rifle & Pistol Club. I also sit on the elected board, and am the assistant director of the training department. In other-words… I’m kind of a big deal.… Read the rest
