Concealed Carry

A LITTLE SOMETHING FUN

These are Sentry 9mm earbuds; similar to the MUNITIO ones. These are fun and seem to work pretty well. They don’t fall out when I work out…that’s mainly what matters.

The only thing that irritates me about these is that  both Sentry and  MUNITIO call them bullets when really they are shortened replicas of the entire assembled around, the cartridge. But hey, not everyone knows that the bullet is just the projectile.

A NOTE ABOUT TACTICAL LIGHTS

When you live around or above the 45th parallel, like me, it is dark ALOT. I always recommend my students carry some sort of a tactical light on their person when packing a handgun. I know there are some companies out there who make some pretty sweet weapons mounted lights (Insight, NightOps etc.) but is a weapon mounted light really a good alternative to a handheld flashlight?

Now, some people like to argue that weapon mounted lights give away your position to the “enemy”.… Read the rest

PACKING HEAT IN THE COLD WEATHER

JUST A FEW MORE REASONS BIGGER IS BETTER:

Winter is my favorite time of year to “pack heat”. First off, it is much easier to conceal a gun in the thick sweaters, layers and coats of winter; and consequentially, I can hide a bigger gun! Secondly, with all the holiday chaos and stress, people tend to go postal, and carrying a side-arm makes me feel alot more comfortable when I’m out in the middle of it. ( Anyone remember the incident in November of 2008 in NY when the Wal-Mart employee, Jdimytai Damour, 34, got trampled to death by a crowd of over 2,000 eager customers?)

You may not know this, but the weather SHOULD be a factor when considering which firearm to carry.Read the rest

FANNY PACKS?

So there is a new trend that is sweeping the runways, the stars have been flaunting it and it infiltrated tourists’ closets back in the eighties……………The fanny pack is back!  I NEVER thought that in my right mind I could actually justify the existence of such a catastrophic accessory, but now that Marc Jacobs and Alice Roi have hopped on board, things are looking up for this sinking ship.

Now I have to be honest here, fanny packs are considered a viable concealed carry method.… Read the rest

CHOOSING A CARRY GUN – PART 3: RELIABILITY

Reliability is the single most important factor when choosing your carry gun.  Nothing will get you dead quicker than not being able to follow through with your decision to fight rather than flee.  So what makes for a reliable defense weapon?

I have this terrible, reoccurring nightmare. Sometimes the situation changes but the general idea and end result are always the same:

I’m in imminent danger and fear for my life. I pull my gun from my holster and point it at the threat, yelling “Get on the ground!

CHOOSING A CARRY GUN – PART 4: YOUR ABILITY TO USE THE GUN FAST AND EFFECTIVELY

Two more important considerations when choosing a sidearm for concealed carry are both the abilities of the gun, as well as your personal abilities to use that gun.

A few questions to consider: How long does it take for the trigger to reset? How about for the action to cycle? How fast can you acquire the sights on this gun? How fast can YOU shoot this gun while maintaining “combat accuracy”?

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE TRIGGER TO RESET?

CHOOSING A CARRY GUN – PART 2: SIZE AND CONCEAL ABILITY

One of the most obvious considerations when choosing a gun to carry concealed is the size and conceal-ability. A lot of people get stuck on this one aspect though. Instead of getting creative on conceal methods, they settle for a less than desirable size and caliber because the smaller gun is much more comfortable to carry.

There are a few factors to consider when we talk about size.

The Mental Factor:

90% of every battle is mental. If that’s the case, then we should do whatever we can to diminish the enemies fight by handicapping their mental capabilities.Read the rest
