Winter is my favorite time of year to “pack heat”. First off, it is much easier to conceal a gun in the thick sweaters, layers and coats of winter; and consequentially, I can hide a bigger gun! Secondly, with all the holiday chaos and stress, people tend to go postal, and carrying a side-arm makes me feel alot more comfortable when I’m out in the middle of it. ( Anyone remember the incident in November of 2008 in NY when the Wal-Mart employee, Jdimytai Damour, 34, got trampled to death by a crowd of over 2,000 eager customers?)
You may not know this, but the weather SHOULD be a factor when considering which firearm to carry. In the winter time people are all bundled up and believe it or not, this is a cause for concern when carrying a small caliber carry piece. The less energy and velocity behind the round, the less of a chance the bullet has of making it all the way through the layers of clothing on the “bad guy” before expanding. Let us remeber, we want to STOP THE THREAT; not just damage their coat!
Another thing to consider: you aren’t the only person with a gun. Even the “bad guys” have figured out that they can carry a larger weapon underneath their coats in the winter than they could have underneath their tee shirts in the summer. You could be up against a bigger, badder, gun. A little something to gnaw before chosing that slim and comfortable .380 during the colder seasons.
